Sticking to Monday’s at the studio. Snuck in a Saturday evening this week too.
I finally picked up some prints I had waiting at Accurate. These made a nice, high contrast-y, New York roaming pair.
As seen on the wall of my studio:
I made another lino cut stamp this week and made a bunch of these star/amoeba prints.
Layering and playing with density and adding color was really fun here - to see what other textures emerged.
The weather has been so lovely and spring-forward this past week that I went for a long sunset walk after work with my camera up and down some streets in my neighborhood I haven’t explored that thoroughly, hunting for altars. I was surprised to not find much - but it is always kind of the case that these things emerge more by happenstance, when the journey is driven by something else, the looking less pointed. There is more discovery, then.
Maybe.
I had a moment tonight where I had a really clear feeling about what I was working on: I don’t need to personally be hand embroidering “HATES TRANS PEOPLE” onto a vintage New York Times hat. I can outsource this work. It will look better, and there is nothing about me spending the time doing this that feels good or like it makes the piece more meaningful. Grateful for that clarity..the work of this piece to find a good embroiderer.
I’ll leave you with just another hodgepodge of what I’ve been digging lately: listening to, reading, looking at, etc.
the spring light, which feels completely new yet familiar
two gay films i saw this week: The Five Devils and The Commuters
Uta Barth at Tanya Bonakdar gallery - seeing many of these works in person for the first time - especially from her project Ground - was such a treat. And a reminder about the difference between photographs as images and as art objects and how your relationship to them can change. I noticed things! In physical relationship to them. That I hadn’t seen printed on the page of a book.

I’m rly having a season with this song by friend Yohuna “The Moon Hangs in the Sky like Nothing Hangs in the Sky” - perfect for a night bike home
