Everything I seem to be photographing lately falls into three interlocking categories: portraits of friends, neighborhood essence, religious iconography.
While in Sicily I got really fixated on the proliferation of personal alters outside peoples’ homes, embedded in alleyways, kept up with flowers and decoration. The Virgin Marys of South Brooklyn take on a different flavor, hidden behind the trash. I realized on this latest roll that so many of these shots are obscured by property thresholds, not necessarily displayed for others close observation.
I have been making a lot more photographs lately, so more to share down this vein.
