It's almost time again
Save the date: St. Veronica's Saint Day Celebration Sunday 7/12 1-3pm
I’m declaring it an art fag summer. We are nearly half-way through June and my time is so saturated (why does it always surprise me, every time pride month comes around and my calendar fills up so fast) with art fag activities. I’ve been relishing in the cadence of: sweat, sit in air conditioned rapture at some sort of gay cultural event, roam the finally-cool city at night, find a slice of pizza to eat, go home to my dog, hydrate, sleep, repeat.

Here’s what I’ve been up to (in a completely non-sensical order):
little (big at heart) trip to Paris in May with Marissa, which was friendship/pastry/art/shopping bliss. I keep telling everyone: how lucky to get 4 days in a row of 1:1 friend time, we talked non-stop all day. This included getting to spend time at a Nan Goldin show at the Grand Palais, which was a spiritual ritual, sitting in the hot dark with all those strangers, I thought: I love everyone here doing this with me, how special that we’re all here to witness and spend time with this work. Special!
Seeing Can I Be Frank? for a second time, even better than the first, especially as I am immersed in research of the 80s and 90s New York gay scene right now as well.
SLOP Salon at Parkside Lounge in April, May and June. Exhilarating, messy, fun, silly, poignant, stupid and brilliant moments coming out of these salons. It is not be missed when back in the fall.
obsessing over the combination of maroon/raspberry/burgundy and light blue. Spring palette that is bringing me through summer
listening to Bellows’ new album “Que Bello!” which is just a having-fun-with-language title to start, but contains really fun sounds and words and I can’t recommend more!
ACT Up AIDS Candlelight Vigil in the West Village, marching with folks in solidarity and rememberance down 7th Ave while the rest of the West Village got ready for the Knicks game on a Friday night - holding a lot in one space, a lot of both/and.
a picnic with my friends and parents on a hillside in Green-wood Cemetery for a slanted view of some sweet film shorts (annual favorite from Rooftop Films)
getting to know the new Liberty roster (including Maddie)
not most importantly, but maybe most instructively, I’ve been researching and getting ready for this year’s celebration of St. Veronica’s Saint Day, which will be in the form of a Saint Day “Parade” aka a history walking tour (gay history! specifically) in the West Village, centered around St. Veronica’s church
I would love if you wanted to come! AND/OR if you would pass along to friends who might be interested, anyone such as: Gay people, artists, and anyone interested in gay history, memorial, photography, collective memory, community spaces, the tension between public and private spaces, activism, the AIDs crisis, Catholicism, New York history.

That’s probably you! I hope to see you out there!
