A secret is that sometimes I use poems in multiple pieces. I try to give myself no hard rules in the favor or experimentation, so this happens. Today’s poem is included in this print (11x14 inches) on the left that I made back in March, and then the first linen banner (12.5x106 in) I made in April, in which I realized I needed to start writing much longer pieces if I was going to cover eight feet of cloth. In a panic while I was exposing the piece, I added several poems to cover more ground.
I spent some energy this spring memorizing it, to get to know it better. The next leg of the process may be doing something with the performance or reading of it! I’ll see.
